Advanced Urology Associates is pleased to announce the opening of their new state of the art radiation treatment center; the Prostate Cancer Center at 1541 Riverboat Center Drive in Joliet, Illinois. This cancer treatment center offers the leading technology and is unique in that it is entirely dedicated to treating prostate cancer, the second leading cause of cancer death in men. The Center is officially accepting patients as of Tuesday December 1, 2009. “Our goal in creating the Prostate Cancer Center was to offer the expertise of Dr. Vera Petras, a renowned specialist in using Image Guided Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IGRT/IMRT) to treat prostate cancer, and combine her clinical skills with the first class staff and latest technology from Varian Medical Systems; thus offering our patients the first center in our area totally dedicated to the treatment of prostate cancer,” said Dr. Gregory Andros, President of Advanced Urology Associates.

According to Dr. Gregory Lewis of Advance Urology Associates, over fifteen years of clinical studies at the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center have demonstrated that IGRT/IMRT is one of the most effective ways to treat prostate cancer with minimal side effects. Advanced Urology Associates physicians have taken this safe and proven form of treatment and are applying it with the newest technology from Varian Medical Systems, a world-wide leader in radiation therapy systems. Varian’s enhanced image guidance, Cone Beam CT, is one of the

latest advancements in the administration of radiation therapy which makes it possible to deliver pin point precise intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) treatment to the prostate without damaging other tissue. Dr. Sandeep Sawhney, a respected urologist with Advanced Urology Associates notes, “We now offer our prostate cancer patients another proven effective method of treating their cancer through the Prostate Cancer Center in an atmosphere that is totally centered on this particular form of cancer.”
